Armbruster Open – May 9th – 11th @ Campus Recreation and Wellness Center
The David Armbruster Open is an event designed to provide an early-season opportunity for athletes to swim in Long Course (50-meter) events and acquire times that they can later use to qualify to compete in other Long Course events throughout the summer. The Armbruster Open attracts teams and athletes from across the State of Iowa and other surrounding Midwest states. The event consists of sessions occurring on Friday night, all day Saturday, and all-day Sunday. The event is split into separate sessions for ages 12 & under and 13 & over. The Armbruster event is the longest running USA Swimming event at the Campus Recreation and Wellness Center on the University of Iowa Campus having been held annually since May 2011. Sugar Cubed Marathon – May 17th @ Sugar Bottom Bike Trail
The Sugar Cubed Marathon bike races are part of the Iowa Mountain Bike Championship Series (IMBCS). The event attracts racers from Iowa, as well as surrounding states, consistently drawing over 100 participants. The event continues to grow the number of participants with a continued focus on youth and female racers by providing affordable racing options for all attendees. IHSAA Individual State Tennis Tournament – May 27th – 28th @ Hawkeye Tennis and Recreation Complex
The Iowa High School Athletic Association’s Singles and Doubles State Tennis Tournament is held at the Hawkeye Tennis and Recreation Complex. The tournament crowns 3 champions! In 2024, Singles Champion, Kade Taylor from Waukee Northwest took home the title along with his teammates Kellan Croatt and Jake Nelson who took home the Doubles championship. IGHSAU 3A & 4A State Golf Tournaments – May 29th – 30th @ Saddleback Ridge Golf Course & Pleasant Valley Golf Couse
The Iowa City Area Sports Commission, Saddleback Ridge Golf Course, and Pleasant Valley Golf Course are excited to welcome many Iowa Girls, coaches, fans, and officials to Iowa City and Solon for the 3A and 4A State Golf Meet. The Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union will be hosting their Singles and Doubles State Tennis Tournament at the Hawkeye Tennis and Recreation Complex. The tournament crowns 3 champions! In 2024, Singles Champion, Gabriella Fleming from Cedar Rapids Xavier took him the title along with Brooke Bloom and Isabella Pierce from Central Dewitt who took from the Doubles championship.
